Bus accreditation fees

The bus operator accreditation and registration schemes have been simplified and consolidated into one accreditation system. These changes came into effect on 1 March 2022.

Information about the changes is available on the front page of the Bus Safety section of this website in Latest News. Online information sessions about the changes to the Bus Safety Act 2009 and the accompanying regulations will be promoted here shortly.

This page provides information about the application fee for accredited bus services; annual accreditation fees; payment methods; and how fees are calculated.

Application
There is an application fee for bus operator accreditation. After your application has been submitted, an invoice will be sent to your nominated email address for payment of the fee.

Annual fee
Accredited bus operators will receive an invoice for annual accreditation fees from Transport Safety Victoria. All annual fee invoices are sent electronically to your nominated email address, so please ensure you update us if your details change.
The table below provides details of the fees for bus service operators.

Fee typeAmount
Application for bus operator accreditation$611.60
Annual accreditation base fee (inclusive of 1 bus)$152.90
Annual additional bus fee (for each additional bus)$84.10

These fees are accurate from 1 July 2022.

For previously registered bus operators deemed to be accredited on 1 March 2022 under amendments to the Bus Safety Act 2009 and Bus Safety Regulations 2020, fees will be waived in the first year. A decreasing discount will then be applied to annual fees for the following 3 years.

How are fees calculated?

Bus operator annual accreditation fees are calculated using the formula provided in Part 9 of the Bus Safety Regulations 2020 (Vic).

The formula references the term 'fee unit', the value of which is established under the Monetary Units Act 2004 (Vic). All fees are exempt from GST.

You can read more about the Victorian Government's indexation of fees and penalties on the Department of Treasury and Finance website.
