Bus safety investigations

Bus Safety Victoria's primary objective is to determine if there has been a breach of the law.

Victoria's accredited and registered bus operators are required to report certain types of transport incidents to us under the Bus Safety Act 2009 (Vic).

Following a bus incident, we may conduct an investigation into the incident or direct the bus operator to conduct their own investigation.

An investigation undertaken by us is commonly referred to as a internal investigation, but may also take the form of a disciplinary inquiry.

If an accredited or registered bus operator is directed to undertake an investigation the operator must commence the investigation within seven days of the direction.
