Annual bus incident statistics

This report provides an overview of bus incident statistics for Victoria up to the end of the calendar year 2015.

There are several key points shown by the 2015 bus incident statistics.

  • There were seven reported fatalities in 2015, including:
    • One member of the public was fatally injured as the result of a collision with a bus
    • Three car drivers were fatally injured as the result of collisions with buses
    • Two bus passengers were fatally injured as the result of a collision with a car
    • One bus driver died of natural causes while driving a bus. 
  • 70 serious injuries were reported in 2015, up from 51 in 2014.
  • There was an increase in the number of reported collisions with bicycles and motorbikes compared with 2014.
  • There was an increase in the number of reported collisions with cars, trucks and trams compared with the past nine years.
  • There was an increase in the number of reported slip, trip or falls compared with the past four years.
  • There was an increase in the number of reported fires on buses compared with the past nine years.

This report provides a statistical summary of incidents that occurred between 1 January and 30 September 2015, and compares these against figures from previous quarters since 1 January 2013.
