Spirit of Tasmania II incident report now available

4 July 2016

On 13 January 2016 the Spirit of Tasmania II berthed portside alongside the TT-Line berth on Station Pier Port Melbourne after arriving from Devonport Tasmania in the early morning. Just before 6:00PM, a highly localised and severe south-westerly gust of wind struck the vessel causing eight out of 10 of the set mooring lines to part.

Maritime Safety Victoria has since completed a comprehensive investigation into the incident, which is now available online.

No one was injured; nor were any vehicles damaged. On further inspection, the Spirit of Tasmania II was found to be structurally sound.
