Boating activity event code of practice

Public consultation: Code of Practice for managers of boating activity events

Maritime Safety Victoria (MSV) has developed a draft Code of Practice (the Code) to help managers of boating activity events (duty holders) comply with a legislated responsibility, or ‘safety duty’, introduced in 2018 under section 25A of the Marine Safety Act 2010 (Vic).

The safety duty requires event managers to take reasonable steps to ensure the safety of everyone involved in an event, in any capacity, including bystanders.

The Code will help MSV deliver outcomes toward its vision for safe boating and safe waterways for the benefit of all Victorians.

UPDATE

Following consultation with a cross section of peak sporting and recreation bodies and other Victorian agencies, MSV sought public submissions on the draft Code August-September 2019 on the Engage Victoria website.

Feedback will be considered and, where appropriate, incorporated into the final Code. The Code will be available to the public once approved by the Minister for Fishing & Boating.
